Science fiction and horror, despite being two disparate film genres, evidently make a terrific team when they are blended for a movie. In this article, we have compiled a list of five must-watch sci-fi horror movies which you can watch this weekend on various Indian OTT platforms.
Alien (Streaming on Disney+ Hotstar)
Any sci-fi horror movies list would be incomplete without including this cult film helmed by veteran filmmaker Ridley Scott. The movie, set in the distant future, follows the crew members of a commercial spaceship. They land on a moon that is transmitting a distress signal. However, they soon learn that the signal was actually a warning about a mysterious alien entity that eventually enters the spaceship. The film featured Sigourney Weaver in the lead of Ripley.
The Thing (Streaming on Apple iTunes, Google Play, YouTube)
It’s a critically acclaimed sci-fi horror flick that revolves around a group of American researchers stationed in Antarctica. On their base, the research team encounters an alien lifeform that has the ability to shapeshift into the exact form of its victims. Tensions ensue because of the sudden lack of trust because now, any one of them could be the alien antagonist. Helmed by legendary filmmaker John Carpenter, the film has achieved a cult following of sorts amongst horror aficionados.
Annihilation (Streaming on Netflix)
The film follows a cellular biologist (played by Natalie Portman) leading an expedition into an ever-expanding mysterious zone that is engulfed by a catastrophic alien presence. A thought-provoking movie directed by Alex Garland, the film’s visual opulence and philosophical premise will manage to keep you engaged throughout.
The Invisible Man (Streaming on Apple iTunes, Google Play, YouTube)
Based on a book by H. G. Wells, the film starts off with a woman (Elisabeth Moss) running away from the clutches of his rich and controlling boyfriend (Oliver Jackson-Cohen). Later, she learns that her boyfriend has committed suicide. But after a series of strange events, she begins to suspect that her supposedly deceased boyfriend has somehow come back to haunt her. When nobody believes her, she decides to fight back an entity she can’t even see, on her own.
I Am Legend (Streaming on Amazon Prime Video)
The film featured eminent actor Will Smith as a scientist and apparently the lone human survivor roaming around in post-apocalyptic desolated streets of New York, which are infested with violent, cannibalistic mutants. The film went on to become one of the highest-grossing movies of 2007, and Will Smith’s performance was unanimously praised by critics and viewers alike.
