5 Must-Watch Sports Films to Stream on Amazon Prime Video

Foxcatcher (2014)

Based on true events, the intense and gripping sports drama revolves around how two wrestling champions Mark Schultz (Channing Tatum) and his elder brother Dave Schultz (Mark Ruffalo) were recruited by the affluent wrestling enthusiast John du Pont (Steve Carell). The duo was tasked to train US wrestlers for the 1988 Olympics. However, the brothers were unaware of the disastrous fate that was waiting for them.

King Richard (2021)

The biographical sports drama showcases how the legendary tennis stars Venus and Serena Williams were trained by their father Richard Williams (played by Will Smith) against all odds while working as a security guard. Will Smith has won an Oscar for his earnest performance in the film.

Sarpatta Parambarai (2021)

It’s a brilliantly executed period boxing drama set during 1970s North Madras. The film features Arya in the role of an underdog boxer Kabilan. He gets a golden opportunity to redeem himself and his Sarpatta Parambarai clan by winning a boxing match against the rival Idiyappa Parambarai clan and defeating their reigning champ Vembuli.

Gold (2018)

Reema Kagti’s period sports movie revolves around India’s first Olympic gold medal at the 1948 Olympics after its independence. The film features Akshay Kumar as the Indian Hockey team’s manager Tapan Das, a role inspired by the legendary KC Chatterjee. How Tapan Das trains the Hockey team with the goal of winning big at the prestigious tournament forms the film’s crux. The movie also featured Amit Sadh, Mouni Roy, Kunal Kapoor, and Vineet Kumar Singh in important roles.

Lafangey Parindey (2010)

Helmed by Pradeep Sarkar (Director – Parineeta), the film revolves around a Mumbai-based chawl girl Pinky (Deepika Padukone), a gifted skater who loses her eyesight in an accident. She finds hope again when a rugged, underground blindfolded fighter Nandu (Neil Nitin Mukesh) teaches her how to overcome her handicap. But there is one hidden truth which can destroy their relationship.
