‘Spiderman: No Way Home’ is one of the four upcoming Marvel Phase 4 films that will be releasing this year, and it is also the most anticipated. However, with the movie expected to release in four months, on December 16th 2021, fans are getting anxious and rightfully so. While there have been multiple rumours about this upcoming film – one of the scariest rumours that have come out, which appears to be true, is that we will likely not get a ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home‘ trailer. While we do not know, if this is official or not, here are five reasons why the trailer is delayed (or not happening):
No Spoilers
With multiple Spider-men (and their on-screen love interests), the Sinister Six, Doctor Strange and even the Daredevil expected to appear on screen, we are not surprised that Marvel might want to keep even the trailer under wraps. It will likely be hard for the film production to stitch together even a minute-long clip, because, knowing Marvel fans – they will likely deduce the entire film with half a frame (or maybe even less).
Fuel The Frenzy
Not releasing the trailer and keeping the Marvel fan-atics guessing about the film plot is one of the best ways to promote the film. This way, the plot is safe, and even if the correct story is guessed, it will only stay “plausible”, till the movie releases. With a character as popular as ‘Spider-man’, the movie can market itself for several weeks, with Marvel only having to feed tidbits of info to MCU fans (even if it is false) through “leaks”.
Sony’s Spiderverse
Kevin Feige once said that Spider-man is the only character that has the power to be in both Sony’s Spiderverse and the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). We could likely see Tom Holland’s Spider-man making an appearance in this Spiderverse – which already has Tom Hardy’s ‘Venom’ and will soon be joined by Jared Leto’s ‘Mobius’. This movie could very well be the film that allows Spider-man to travel between the different cinematic universes.
Worst Case Scenario
Covid-19. Covid-19 has continued to cause issues around the world, and with major theatrical markets still affected heavily, we wouldn’t be surprised that the trailer is delayed because the film is also delayed. We will have to wait and see, for if this is true – we will get an announcement soon.
A Scenario Much Worse Than The Above Scenario
According to the Marvel-Sony agreement, this could very well be the last time Spider-man will ever appear in an MCU film. Sure, they can still renew the contract, but after the fiasco that happened last time – it looks like there might be even tougher negotiations that might happen and cause the whole deal to break apart. So, if this is really the case and MCU is thinking that keeping Spider-man is more trouble than it’s worth, then it is highly likely that they will be preparing to let Tom Holland’s Spider-man leave the MCU, and possibly even join Sony’s Spiderverse full-time.
