Munich: The Edge Of War was released in 2021 but debuted on Netflix very recently. The movie is a “fictional story” that is set in events leading to WWII, particularly the Munich Conference. It follows the story of two friends Hugh Legat, Paul von Hartmann who studied in Oxford in 1932. The latter as the name was a German returned to Germany for translating documents, statements to Adolf Hitler.
Hugh Legat was the private secretary of the British PM Neville Chamberlain who had access to a lot of top-level secrets.
Regardless, here are the top 5 reasons why one should watch Munich: The Edge Of War.
1. What actually leads to a War
War does not necessarily start from a bullet or someone’s whim. It may start from poor efforts of establishing peace. It can also be started through propaganda and reasons that we never know. To sum up, common people are too unaware about what may have actually brought the war and what media and governments say may not be always true.
2.Present Society Is Not Much Different
We like to think that we are appreciably different from the Third Reich. But after watching this movie, you will be available to appreciate the insane similarities that any average society has with The Third Reich. Those lie in the nuances and hidden details as the cosmetics might be completely different or even opposite.
3.Pure Espionage
Espionage is often mixed with sexual scenes. Although that is definitely a part of it there are a lot of other things. Munich: The Edge Of War talks about those pure espionage tactics that are tough to find these days.
4.How Propaganda Works
Society likes to think that they are intelligent enough to identify truth from propaganda. Actual propaganda can be identified easily if the people believe that there is no propaganda at all. This movie has beautifully and hauntingly captured how people are brainwashed without them realising. The movie talks about Hitler’s propaganda in that manner.
5.We Know The Outcome Yet Film Is Worth It
Lastly, the cinematic aspects. We all know that the Munich conference failed and WWII started just a year later. Still, the screenplay and storytelling have been worked out so minutely that we love to binge the movie till the end.
