Neerja (Streaming on Disney+ Hotstar)
Helmed by Ram Madhvani, the film’s plotline is based on the real-life hijacking of Pan Am Flight 73 by terrorists during a stopover in Karachi in September 1986. Sonam Kapoor essayed the titular role of the courageous head purser Neerja Bhanot, who had sacrificed her life while saving the lives of the ill-fated flight’s passengers.
Raanjhanaa (Streaming on Jio Cinema, Zee5, Eros Now)
Helmed by Aanand L. Rai, the film was the Bollywood debut of the proficient actor Dhanush. The plot revolves around a Brahmin boy’s (Dhanush) persistent attempts to woo a Muslim girl (Sonam Kapoor) he is madly in love with since his childhood. He plays spoilsport after feeling betrayed upon learning that the girl is marrying a Sikh boy (Abhay Deol). This leads to a further rift between them. The film also featured Mohd. Zeeshan Ayyub and Swara Bhaskar in important roles.
Khoobsurat (Streaming on Netflix)
The romantic comedy drama follows the story of a happy-go-lucky and carefree physiotherapist Mili (Sonam Kapoor) who meets a handsome Rajput man Vikram (Fawd Khan), who belongs to a totally different family with an ultra-disciplined lifestyle. How Mili deals with the eccentric lifestyle of the boy’s family forms the film’s crux.
Pad Man (Streaming on Netflix, Zee5)
Based on Twinkle Khanna’s story ‘The Legend of Lakshmi Prasad’, the social drama was R. Balki’s latest directorial film. The plot revolves around a man named Lakshmikant Chauhan’s (Akshay Kumar) efforts to make available low-cost and hygienic sanitary pads which can even be afforded by poor women from rural India. The film also featured Radhika Apte and Sonam Kapoor in an extended yet effective cameo.
Delhi-6 (Streaming on Netflix)
Helmed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, the film features Abhishek Bachchan as Roshan, an NRI from America who visits his ancestral place in the Old Delhi area. As he begins to discover his roots and the culture, he soon gets embroiled in a controversy which involves a monkey-like creature wreaking havoc on the residents. Sonam Kapoor played the girl-next-door and Abhishek Bachchan’s love interest in the film.
