Indian OTT viewers have been waiting for the longest time for US streamer HBO Max to launch in India. HBO Max’s launch in India has been delayed for an unspecified period of time. However, in a piece of good news, Prime Video India has recently tied up with HBO Max to stream the latter’s shows in India. Since the deal became public knowledge, a number of HBO Max Original series and films have already begun streaming in India on Prime Video. And several are due to begin streaming in August.
‘The Flight Attendant’, ‘Gossip Girl’, ‘The Sex Lives Of College Girls’, ‘The Staircase’ are few of the HBO Max shows that have begun streaming on Prime Video India. Due to start streaming on Prime Video India this August are ‘Peacemaker’, ‘Raised By Wolves’, ‘Doom Patrol’, among others.
Despite the avalanche of HBO Max Original shows on Prime Video India, die-hard fans of OTT entertainment are still left disappointed. Reason – five top HBO Max shows will not be streaming on Prime Video India, as per the list of announced shows.
Here are the five top HBO Max Original series that we in India will still be deprived of –
Hacks –
The breakout hit for HBO Max, ‘Hacks’ stars Jean Smart as legendary standup Deborah Vance, who is in need of infusing fresh life and fresh material into her stand up routine. The fun begins when her manager enlists Ava (Hannah Einbinder), a struggling millennial comedy writer, to help her. ‘Hacks’ is a legit riot, and one of the best HBO Max shows.
Our Flag Means Death –
Rhys Darby stars as Stede Bonnet, a pampered aristocrat, who is keen on living the pirate life. He abandons his life of privilege to become a pirate in the early 18th century, and sets sail with Blackbeard (Taika Waititi) for amusing capers. ‘Our Flag Means Death’ is a queer rom-com that wrestles with the toxic masculinity that comes with being a pirate.
Station Eleven –
‘Station Eleven’ is a post-apocalyptic dystopian story, set twenty years after a flu pandemic results in the collapse of civilization. A group of survivors make their living as traveling performers, but have to fight for survival when faced with a violent cult led by a man whose past is connected to a member of the troupe. ‘Station Eleven’ is rated 98% on Rotten Tomatoes, and is an excellent watch.
Harley Quinn –
The animated series ‘Harley Quinn’, centres on the badass DC Comics villainess, and her quest to make it on her own as the criminal queenpin in Gotham City. After breaking up with her boyfriend, the Joker, Harley Quinn teams up with her friend Poison Ivy, to kick up a storm in Gotham City. Rated 96% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Search Party –
‘Search Party’ is a black comedy that drops a few eye-opening insights for discerning viewers. The disappearance of former college acquaintance Chantal leads several 20-somethings to get entangled in the mystery of how she went missing. ‘Search Party’ is rated a phenomenal 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. The site describes the series as “Search Party is an engaging, weird, dark, funny mystery elevated by exceptional performances throughout”. And damn, we in India are still deprived of the joy of enjoying the must-watch show!
