Oblivion, 2013
Helmed by Joseph Kosinski and set in the year 2077 on post-apocalyptic Earth, the sci-fi actioner was based on the director’s graphic novel of the same name. The film follows a drone repairman Jack Harper (Tom Cruise) who is on the verge of completing a mission to extract the planet’s remaining resources following a destructive alien invasion. However, he begins to doubt his knowledge about the war and his mission after he discovers a crashed spacecraft.
Lucy, 2014
Luc Besson’s sci-fi action movie follows the titular American student Lucy (Scarlett Johansson), who is captured and forced to become a drug mule. However, the hi-tech drug, surgically implanted inside her body, accidentally leaks and the incident grants Lucy superhuman mental and physical abilities by way of unlocking her mind’s full potential. It also features Morgan Freeman in the role of Professor Samuel Norman, who helps Lucy and attempts to understand what has happened to her.
Doom, 2005
Although this science fiction actioner didn’t find favourable feedback from critics, it’s still a decent, over-the-top guilty pleasure for genre enthusiasts and diehard fans of The Rock aka Dwayne Johnson. The movie’s basic plot follows a special ops team who is sent on a mission to another planet where they must fight with genetically enhanced aliens.
