It’s the weekend, so you guys know what is coming up – Our “Best 50 – What To Watch” listicle. In this listicle/article, we will be looking at the most exciting, English-speaking, fictional web series that is currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video. This means all those brilliant docu-series and international shows will have to wait until we make a list talking about them, exclusively. So without wasting more our time, check out this list:

50. Preacher (2016)

PreacherWe kick this list off with a Seth Rogan produced Sci-fi series. We follow ex-outlaw Jesse Cutler, who gives up his old ways to become a preacher, as a promise to his late father. Everything turns upside down, when Jesse suddenly gains a very unusual yet amazing power. Oh, and there is an Irish vampire who gets involved as well. Based on DC Comics’ Vertigo imprinted comic book series of the same name by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon.

49. The Man In The High Castle (2015)

The Man In The High CastleVery loosely based on the Philip K. Dick novel of the same name, the series is set in an alternate universe where the Axis Powers won the Second World War. The United States of America gets split into three parts – one part each controlled by the axis powers – Nazi Germany and the Japanese, with third zone being a buffer zone between the two. However, a new hope comes, in the form of films from a different world in this heavy oppression. A woman believes these films to be the key to their eventual freedom and she decides to take action.

48. The Great (2020)

The GreatA genre-bending look at history through 18th century Russia where we see the wild and hilarious rise of Catherine the Nothing to Catherine the Great.

47. Good Omens (2019)

Good OmensThis brilliant Amazon original miniseries stars Michael Sheen and David Tennant as the angel, Aziraphale and the demon, Crowley, respectively. The two have been sent to Earth from the heavens and hell respectively and do not want to leave it as they have become overly attached to living here. They are forced to form an alliance in an attempt to stop the approaching Armageddon. In order to do that, they have to find a missing 11-year-old child, who is the Antichrist – to bring the end of days upon humanity.

46. Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan (2018)

We mean John Krasinski. This Amazon thriller follows Jack Ryan, an up-and-coming CIA analyst, who is sent to the field for a dangerous operation for the first time. While doing so, he is forced to take a dangerous gambit while on a mission, so as to take on a terrorist organization that has plans for a major disaster on a global scale.

45. The Mentalist (2008)

The MentalistPatrick Jane, an independent consultant works with the California Bureau of Investigation and uses his keen observation skills to help solve crimes. But little does the Bureau know, he has his own reasons for joining the team as a consultant.

44. The Good Doctor (2017)

The Good DoctorFamous child star turned well-known TV star Freddie Highmore stars on this medical drama series as a young doctor, Dr. Shaun, a man who has a medical condition that makes it hard to socialize with others. He joins the renowned hospital in San Jose, California and has to prove his ability as a doctor to his new co-workers.

43. The Night Manager (2016)

The Night Manager This Tom Hiddleston starring British mini-series is based on the 1993 novel of the same name written by John le Carre, which is adapted by David Farr for this series. This brilliant series has an ensemble cast and it follows Pine, an ex-British soldier, who is hired by an intelligence officer to be a covert operative. He is tasked with infiltrating the inner circle of Roper, a secret arms dealer, who also just happened to be his lover’s killer.

42. The Big Bang Theory (2007)

41. Mozart in The Jungle (2014)

Parenthood A TV series stylized after the old-school multi-generational joint family television series, ‘Parenthood’ still manages to stay fresh and interesting with its complex storylines and brilliant writing. We follow the multigenerational Braverman family who struggle through various challenges of marriage and raising children while supporting each other through tough times.

39. The Originals (2013)

The OriginalsSurprise, surprise. This ‘Vampire Diaries’ spin-off series managed to make it on this list, while the Original (pun intended) wouldn’t be able to, unless the name of this list turned into the Top 80 or the Top 90. We follow the original family of Vampires as they settle down in the city of New Orleans, the city they helped build decades ago. Now they are back and they face new rivals as well meet old allies.

38. Undone (2019)

Undone‘Undone’ is Amazon Prime Video’s first original animated series. It is also its first series to use Rotoscoping. We follow 28-year-old Alma who nearly dies in a car accident. After the incident, she finds that she has a new relationship with time. She uses this new relationship to find out the truth about her father’s untimely demise.

37. Chuck (2007)

Chuck Chuck’s life turns upside down when he accidently downloads a few government secrets into his brain. He is now recruited by the CIA and the NSA for his knowledge on their secret missions. This was the series that put Zachary Levi on the map, before ‘Shazam!’ took him global.

36. ZeroZeroZero (2020)

ZeroZeroZeroThis Italian multi-lingual TV series is based on the book of the same name by Roberto Saviano. The TV series shows the movement of the drug cocaine across international waters, across continents. An American family, the Lynwoods, control an international shipping company which acts as the cocaine broker between the Mexican and Italian organized crime. The series gets its name from the purest type of “flour” (000), which is the nickname given, by most narco-traffickers, for the purest form of cocaine in the market.

35. Black Sails (2014)

Black SailsA prequel to the classic Robert Louis Stevenson novel ‘Treasure Island’, ‘Black Sails’ is a pirate adventure series that centers on the tales of Captain Flint. The Captain, who has a reputation throughout the West Indies as being the most brilliant, most feared of all the Golden Age pirates now fights for the survival of New Providence Island – a “paradise” teeming with pirates, prostitutes, thieves and fortune seekers. After multiple threats from British and Spanish forces, he is forced to align himself with Eleanor Guthrie, the daughter of the local kingpin, to hunt THE ultimate prize and ensure his people’s survival.

34. Killing Eve (2018)

Killing Eve Eve is bored with her seemingly ordinary life. Despite working as a spy for the British Government, her job isn’t what she thought it would be. Villanelle is an extremely talented contract killer, with an extremely mercurial personality. She too starts to feel bored with her job, although, she still loves the luxuries her job provides. Eve and Villanelle go head to head, with each woman becoming overly obsessed with the other, as Eve is assigned the task of hunting down the psychopathic assassin.

33. The Adventures of Tintin (1991)

The Adventures of TintinBased on the world famous Belgian comic book series of the same name written by Belgian comic artist Georges Prosper Remi, (pen name Hergé), this animated TV series follows young reporter, Tintin and his dog, Snowy as they travel the world and solve brilliant crimes and mysteries.

32. The Good Fight (2017)

The Good FightDiane Lockhart, a lawyer, loses her entire life savings overnight, due to a scam. She is then forced to find a job and start afresh.

31. Patriot (2015)

Patriot To stop Iran from going nuclear, intelligence officer John Tavner is forced to forgo all safety nets and assume a perilous non-official cover (NOC). The assignment just adds to his already turbulent and complicated life as an intelligence officer.

30. Psych (2006)

Psych Shawn Spencer is a police consultant who solves crimes using his extremely good observational skills. He is so good at his job that the police think that he is psychic.

29. Californication (2007)

CalifornicationA troubled writer moves to Los Angeles for the sake of his job. His life becomes complicated when he encounters writer’s block, which affects his relationship with his daughter and ex-girlfriend.

28. The Good Wife (2009)

The Good WifeAlicia Florrick’s life turns upside down when her husband Peter, a former state’s attorney, is imprisoned for a sex and corruption scandal. She is forced to find a job and take care of her two children at the same time.

27. Supernatural (2005)

SupernaturalTwo brothers, Dean and Sam, follow in their father’s footsteps to eliminate monsters, demons and other supernatural entities that exist on Earth.

26. Bosch (2014)

Bosch This cop show examines the crimes committed in the Hollywood Division of the Los Angeles Police Department. We follow Los Angeles Police detective Harry Bosch. The first season is inspired by the Michael Connelly books – ‘City of Bones’, ‘Echo Park‘, and ‘The Concrete Blonde’.

25. Suits (2011)

SuitsThe series that re-popularized legal drama in the 2010s as well as suits in general (although, Barney from ‘How I Met Your Mother’ made a strong case for wearing suits, himself). We follow Mike Ross, a talented young college dropout, who gets hired as an associate by Harvey Specter, one of New York’s best lawyers. They must now handle cases while keeping Mike’s qualifications a secret.

24. Fringe (2008)

FringeFBI special agent Olivia Dunham is forced to work together with a “mad scientist” Walter Bishop and his son Peter Bishop to investigate various aspects of fringe science. The series has been described by critics as a hybrid of fantasy, procedural dramas and serials.

23. Person of Interest (2011)

Person of InterestThis brilliant Jonathan Nolan created TV series follows former CIA agent Reese, who is presumed dead and a billionaire software genius Finch as they join forces as a vigilante crime-fighting team. Using Finch’s program, which uses pattern recognition to determine individuals who will soon be involved in violent crimes, Reese tracks these individuals down and monitors them. But there is one catch – we do not know if this identified person is the perpetrator of the upcoming crime or the victim.

22. The Handmaid’s Tale (2017)

The Handmaid's TaleSaid to be a show which is a reflection of current times, this brilliant Emmy winning series is based off the best-selling novel of the same name by Canadian author, Margaret Atwood. Set in an alternate universe, in a totalitarian society called Gilead (which used to be the part of the U.S.), the women are treated as property of the state. Due to environmental disasters and a plummeting birth rate, the few fertile women are forced into sexual servitude to repopulate the world. One of these women, Offred, is determined to escape this terrifying world and find her daughter, who was taken from her.

21. Coupling (2000)

Coupling This British sitcom has had many critics comparing it to ‘Friends’ and ‘Seinfeld’. These “group-genre” TV shows were growing to be popular in that time period (as ‘Friends’ showed) and ‘Coupling’ became a huge hit in the UK. This show follows a couple, Susan and Steve as they deal with their friends and exes, while talking about a variety of topics ranging between sex, relationships and true love.

20. Spaced (1999)

Spaced Another British comedy series, we follow Tim, a comic book artist who just broke up with the love of his life, and Daisy, an aspiring writer, who meet by chance and pose as a couple to secure a good flat for a relatively cheap price.

19. Luther (2010)

Luther This brilliant detective (another British) series follows Idris Elba as John Luther, a passionate detective who skirts the law to do the right thing and keep people safe. He ends up befriending a psychopath and murderer, whom he couldn’t arrest due to lack of evidence, and enlists her help while solving various cases.

18. The Expanse (2015)

The ExpanseSet hundreds of years into the future, ‘The Expanse’ is based on the sci-fi novel series of the same name by James S.A.Corey. Humans have colonized the entire solar system, but Mars has now become an independent military power. Tensions rise as Earth and Mars are on the brink of war. Set with this backdrop, a well-accustomed detective and a rogue ship’s captain come together to investigate the case of a missing young woman. This investigation leads them on a race covering the solar system, with them uncovering the greatest conspiracy in human history.

17. Shameless (2004)

ShamelessFrank Gallagher is the head of a working-class family in Chicago. His six kids suffer under Frank’s presence, who drinks constantly, with the eldest, Fiona taking care of the entire household.

16. Mr. Bean (1990)

Mr. Bean This Worldwide phenomenon is known by kids and adults alike, and made Rowan Atkinson an Internationally recognizable figure as the series spread across the globe, over the years. Catch the childish Mr. Bean, who does unusual antics to fulfill day-to-day tasks. But that usually ends up causing trouble for him and the people around him.

15. Mr. Robot (2015)

Mr. Robot Pretty much every show from now on, can be counted among the “Must-Watch” category (including Mr. Bean). This brilliant thriller TV series follows Elliot Anderson, a cyber-security engineer who suffers from anxiety. He works for a huge corporation by day and hacks felons by night. Fear strikes him when Mr. Robot, a cryptic anarchist, recruits him to join his cause, which also involves him ruining the company he is currently working at

14. Dexter (2006)

Dexter This series features probably the most beloved murderer in TV history (not sure, but highly likely) – Dexter Morgan. He is a forensic technician who works for the police department during the day, helping detectives solve crime and kills the heinous perpetrators in the night. A new 10-episode season is in the making for this 2013 completed series.

13. Mad Men (2007)

Mad Men Donald Draper, the brilliant creative director at Sterling Cooper in New York is forced to balance his exceptional professional life, his deteriorating personal life and his vices, in the 1960s.

12. Parks and Recreation (2009)

Parks and RecreationLeslie Knope, a mid-level bureaucrat working in the Parks and Recreation department of the fictional town of Pawnee, Indiana, wishes to help a local nurse, Ann, convert a disused construction site into a community park. This however leads her to deal with red-tapism and self-centred neighbours. This brilliant political comedy TV series is made into a mockumentary stylized sitcom.

11. Doctor Who (2005)

Doctor WhoA reboot of the 1963 series of the same name, the Internationally popular TV series follows a Time Lord called “The Doctor”. They are an extraterrestrial being who appears to be human. The Doctor explores the universe in a time-travelling space ship called the TARDIS and works to combat foes, works to save civilizations and helps people in need.

10. This Is Us (2016)

This-Is-UsThis Golden Globe nominated series is well-known among TV series lovers as the “show that makes everyone cry without fail”. We follow three siblings, Kevin, Kate and Randall, as they go through their own unique personal struggles at different intervals of life while trying to find happiness and get over a tragedy in their past.

9. Downton Abbey (2010)

Downton AbbeyThis crowd favourite TV series went on to launch the series of many artists. The series follows Robert Crawley, who risks losing his family estate after his heirs die in the Titanic. The Crawleys are eventually introduced to Matthew, the next heir in line, who doesn’t follow the aristocratic way of life.

8. The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (2017)

The Marvelous Mrs. MaiselIn the late 1950s, Miriam “Midge” Maisel is living her perfect life – the perfect apartment, two kids and an apartment in the Upper West side of New York. Her seemingly brilliant life comes to a standstill when she discovers a hidden talent – stand-up comedy. This revelation changes her outlook on life and she begins a journey that takes her from her comfortable life to grinding it out in the comedy world.

7. Fleabag (2016)

FleabagThis is the show that revolutionized dark, introspective comedy and made Phoebe Waller-Bridge an international force with her brilliant acting and writing skills. We follow a dry-witted woman, known to us as Fleabag, played by Waller-Bridge. While trying to cope with a heart-breaking tragedy, she navigates through her life and love in London while trying to not stay overly angry in her state of intense grief, which seems to follow her constantly. This series is based on the one-woman show of the same name made by the series’ lead, writer and creator, the aforementioned Waller-Bridge.

6. House MD (2004)

House MDThis brilliant medical drama series follows an anti-social diagnostician, Dr. House and his team as they take on complex, unknown cases and try to discover and cure the patient’s illnesses. Dr. House regularly clashes with his superiors for his disregard to hospital rules and regulations while putting his team on their toes while pitting them against each other.

5. The Boys (2019)

The BoysThis brilliant one-of-a-kind Superhero web series is based on the comic book series of the same name created by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson. This TV series is set in an alternate universe where Superheroes exist and they are treated like celebrities, who are as influential as politicians. But do these Superheroes actually use their powers for good though? When the powerful minority starts to abuse their powers against the powerless majority, the Boys decide to make it their mission to uncover the injustice and expose them, any way necessary.

4. Invincible (2021)

Invincible‘The Boys’ should have been the best Superhero series on this list. And it was, until March 25th 2021, when ‘Invincible’ dropped. True, it is kind of hard to see how an animated series can beat a brilliant R-Rated TV series, but then again, this show is an adult animated show. Based on the Image Comics series of the same name by Robert Kirkman, Cory Walker, and Ryan Ottleye, we follow 17-year-old Mark Grayson, who is just like any other high school kid his age… except for the fact that Omni-Man, the most powerful superhero on the planet, is his father. As Mark develops powers of his own, he finds out that his father’s legacy was not as heroic as he thought.

3. Fargo (2014)

FargoThis brilliant anthology series is inspired from the 1996 film of the same name which was written and directed by the Coen brothers. Each season in this series follows a different storyline which all takes place within the same universe as the movie. Each season usually has a crime involved varying in date, era and characters, but they all take place in Midwest USA.

2. The Office (2005)

The OfficeOne of the greatest shows ever created, and the TV series that popularized the mockumentary genre, follow this show as it gives us a look inside the office of a paper company, Dunder Mifflin Paper Company, in their Scranton branch in Pennsylvania. It was adapted from the hit one-off UK series of the same name, created by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant.

1. Avatar: The Last Airbender (2005)

Avatar: The Last AirbenderYep. An animated series has topped this chart. What’s more, it is a Nickelodeon show, aimed at children. But this hit TV series managed to capture the hearts of children and adults alike with its brilliant storytelling, complex and interesting characters and epic visuals. Set in an alternate world where the Earth is divided into four nations – the Water Tribe, the Earth Kingdom, the Fire Nation and and the Air Nomads — each represented by a natural element for which the nation has been named. Some people in these nations have the ability to manipulate the elements of their nation. Only the Avatar can master all four elements. Currently, the Fire Nation wants to conquer the world and is succeeding. The only person who has the power to stop a nation, the Avatar, has been missing for a hundred years.
