Yavarum Nalam (trans. All are Fine) was released in 2009, written and directed by Vikram Kumar is an excellent movie to watch if you are a fan of horror movies and are looking for a good horror movie made in India. Though originally made in Tamil, the movie was simultaneously shot in Hindi as well to gain a greater audience in the name 13B: Fear has a New Address. The movie stars R. Madhavan and Neetu Chandra along with Sachin Khedekar, Deepak Sharma and Murli Sharma. Shankar-Ehsan-Loy composed the music for the movie and Tubby Parik gave the original score.
The movie is about a family that moves into an flat that is in the 13th floor of the apartment. Manohar, the protagonist soon starts witnessing some strange and unusual things in the flat. The women of the family are hooked to a TV show named ‘Yavarum Nalam/ Sab Khairiyat’, surprisingly the show is based on a family that is exactly similar to that of Manohar’s family. On the top of that everything that happens to the family in the show happens to Manohar’s family. Soon Manohar tries to find out the reasons behind all these events and what unfurls becomes the story of the movie.
The movie uses in a very good manner the elements of horror, psychology, non-linear plot and multi-dimensional existences to create an excellent movie. The movie has a great suspense that totally blows one’s mind into providing a completely unpredictable climax for the movie. The direction, acting and quality writing hooks the audience to the screen. The movie also provides the audience with a complete package of a horror movie without the use of gothic, spookiness and gore.
