A Man Called Otto Trailer: Tom Hanks Is A Cranky Old Neighbour

Christmas is about to get grumpy! Sony Pictures has dropped the official trailer of ‘A Man Called Otto’, starring Tom Hanks as the titular character. The film is an adaptation of Fredrik Backman’s best-selling novel, A Man Called Ove.

The trailer shows Otto, a cranky widower who likes torturing his neighbours. He does not hate the world. It’s just the people that he cannot stand. We see him keeping a safe distance from his neighbours, lashing out at people who walk with their dogs because the animals pee on his sidewalk, and getting angry with delivery truck drivers as they park their vehicles where they are not allowed. He is a lonely man. And whoever he encounters is his enemy. But he loved his wife. We see him visiting her tombstone frequently and sharing details about his life.

However, everything changes in Otto’s life after the arrival of Marisol (Mariana Trevino) into his block. She is pregnant and has a couple of young girls and a good-hearted husband. Also, she tries hard to befriend Otto. Our grumpy protagonist ignores Marisol at first but slowly becomes an integral part of her family. He teaches her how to drive. He even starts looking after her daughters. Otto transforms himself from a cranky old man into a caring person.

Quantum of Solace and World War Z fame Marc Forster has helmed the upcoming comedy-drama with a screenplay by David Magee. The duo has worked previously in Finding Neverland (2004), starring Johnny Depp and Kate Winslet. Apart from Tom Hanks and Mariana Trevino, the film stars Rachel Keller, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Cameron Britton, and Mike Birbiglia. It will release on this year’s Christmas in selected theatres and will get a worldwide release on January 13, 2023. Stay tuned for more updates.
