We are halfway across our recaps of Money Heist now. The epic series is all set to come back for the final season divided into two parts. The first volume as we all know is all set to release on September 3rd, and we are less than a week away now. So, since we are done with our recaps of Season 1 and Season 2, which you can read here, we shall now proceed to tell you what went down in Season 3 of Money Heist.
Season 3, unlike the other two seasons, is much crisper and shorter. With just 8 episodes in the season, it does its job of getting across the point of how big the upcoming seasons will be. Season 3 is more like a filler season in the series. Now, to begin with, this season is set 2-3 years after the heist. As the professor and gang of robbers successfully evade the police, they take a ship and enter the international waters. From there, the professor instructs the team and divides them into groups of twos, with their respective money and gives them the location, and tells them to stay out of the radar.
Life’s going great for our lovers Rio and Tokyo, who are away on an island, minding their business, partying their hearts out, and mingling with the locals. Despite all these, Tokyo wants more, she is already bored and wants to move out. Knowing how Tokyo is, Rio tells her to go and promises to stay in connection with the satellite phones they have. While Tokyo is on her way out, Rio is already missing her and does what he shouldn’t have- contact Tokyo, through the satellite phone. Rio’s call is intercepted by Europol and he is taken in.
After Tokyo realizes something is wrong she goes to the Professor once again, and the moment she sees her savior, she knows everything will be okay (this is one emotional scene though). This time, the Professor isn’t alone, the love of his life is with him and Raquel goes by the name of Lisbon. Though Tokyo can’t bear seeing police in the team, she deals with it for the Professor. After listening to what Tokyo has to say, Professor agrees that it’s time for yet another heist, and for that, he wants the team back, though not forcing anyone to join them, but everyone comes in to help Professor one more time.
The team gets bigger, this time they have Tokyo, Denver, Nairobi, Helsinki from the older team, and Lisbon, Palermo, Bogota, Marseilles along with Monica, the secretary, who came along with Denver, is here, she will be known as Stockholm for now on. The team plans to rob the Bank of Spain this time, and this was the plan that was planned out by none other than his brother, the late Berlin, while he was staying in France with his friend, who we now know is Palermo. Bogota is the muscle man and Marseilles will be the man on the outside. The idea of robbing the Bank of Spain is to rob the gold and also take the secret documents of the highest officials of Spain that are stored in the underground vaults there. The team will negotiate with the police, to return Rio and take the documents in exchange which are highly classified.
This time, the Professor plans to take the help of the public, as he realized how after the last heist, they were being hailed as an example of “resistance”, someone who can stand for the public and against the government. To take advantage of this they rain notes of euros on the people in Spain and tell them that they will be now attacking the Bank of Spain, and they want Rio to be back with them. As the team enters the Bank of Spain, surprisingly without any difficulties, they immediately take people hostage. While half stays on the top, half goes down to the vaults, to see the gold and classified documents. As they enter the vaults, they start getting ready to work. The basic plan is to melt the gold bars and take them out as beads, which will be far easier to carry than the bars.
On the other hand, under massive pressure, Rio is finally released and he is accompanied by a pregnant negotiator, named Alicia Sierra this time, who is nowhere near what Raquel was like. She doesn’t believe in negotiating, she believes in taking them out in full-blown action. As Rio makes his entry into the Bank of Spain, he is under utter trauma and for some reason, he breaks it off with Tokyo. Lisbon and the Professor are operating everything from outside from a truck and later while in a rush moves into an ambulance.
Here Tokyo is heartbroken, and on the other hand, the Professor and Lisbon are under attack from the police. They take cover but only the Professor could save himself and Lisbon is taken in by the police. Under the instructions of Alicia Sierra, Suarez who catches Lisbon fires two shots which Professor hears and is left distraught. He after some time gathers himself up and relays it to the group that Lisbon was shot. Now, Professor is ready to do anything to take revenge, but they realize just how they expected Rio to have been fit with a chip before releasing, which will help the police outside. The robbers take advantage of this and make a commotion, which makes it look like they are going outside.
While all this is going on, we go into flashbacks and see the brotherly love between the Professor and Berlin, as Berlin is ready to get married to his fiancée Tatiana, who also knows about the plans. Even though the Professor is concerned, he lets it slide for his brother’s happiness. Now, as we come back to reality, we see Arturo Roman, the most irritating person of the series make his entry into the Bank of Spain and remain a hostage. One of the potential enemies of the upcoming seasons will be Gandia, the bodyguard who has evil plans even though he is chained up by the team. After the team is successful in misleading the team about getting out of the bank, Alicia Sierra is furious and wants revenge. This is when she contacts the team inside and tells Nairobi to look outside because this is the only time she will be able to see her son, who was taken away from her.
The team is in shambles already, with them thinking they lost Lisbon, to a rift between Palermo and Tokyo, now it looks like Alicia is ready to mess up Nairobi. But on the other hand, we see Lisbon is not dead and she is very much alive, the shots were fired to distract the professor, and after some considerable thinking, even the team decides to believe that.
Nairobi takes her steps forward and as she sees her son for the first time in so many years, through the windows of the bank, she is shot in the chest by a sniper who was waiting for Alicia’s orders. Nairobi is shot, a key player, the team does everything to get her back and as they are already distracted with that, the military is ready to send in tanks to break down the doors but Tokyo leaves Nairobi and takes the charge, with few teammates attending Nairobi and few coming down with Tokyo, she takes the rocket launcher and in all rage shoots up the tank. Now with a major signal out there, it isn’t a good idea to mess with them, Tokyo tells Professor that they are ready not for a fight but a war.
Here’s how Season 3 ends, on a cliffhanger as to what happens now with Lisbon and Nairobi.
