A.R. Rahman’s ‘99 Songs’ Special Concert Streaming Today

Music maestro A.R.Rahman is leaving no stone unturned for his long-standing passion project – his upcoming film titled ’99 Songs’. Helmed by filmmaker Vishwesh Krishnamoorthy and co-written and produced by Rahman himself, the musical-romance film reportedly revolves around a struggling singer (played by Ehan Bhat) and his aspirations to become a successful music composer.

Rahman recently announced that a special concert (Hindi) for the film is set to release. The concert is being promoted as ‘A magnificent digital show chronicling the songs of the mega film’. It can be streamed today i.e., 14th April 2021 at 9:09 PM onwards on Jio Saavn’s YouTube channel.

As part of the film’s promotions, the Academy Award-winning music composer had also recently made an appearance alongside the film’s lead actor in the singing reality show ‘Indian Idol’ and in Zee TV’s ‘Indian Pro Music League’.

“The core idea is like a fairytale. What if a guy has to write 100 songs to win over a girl?” Rahman had earlier stated in an interview about the film’s premise. The film will also feature Edilsy Vargas (also in a lead role) alongside Manisha Koirala (1942 A Love Story, Dil Se) and Lisa Ray (Water, Bollywood Hollywood).

The background music and the film’s soundtrack are composed by Rahman himself. Rahman’s forthcoming projects include ‘Navarasa’, ‘Cobra’, ‘No Man’s Land’, ‘Atrangi Re’ and ‘Heropanti 2’ amongst others.

It is mention-worthy that Rahman got his first feature film break as a composer with Mani Ratnam’s romantic thriller film ‘Roja’. He was eventually introduced to the Hindi films audience by Ram Gopal Verma in his film titled ‘Rangeela’, which featured acclaimed actor-filmmaker Aamir Khan alongside the stylish actress Urmila Matondkar.

Although the official trailer of the film was released back in February 2020, the film’s release probably got delayed due to the pandemic. ’99 Songs’ is now set for a theatrical release in multiple languages: Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu, on April 16, 2021.
