The Tamil film industry is perhaps one of the best in India. A tonne of movies have turned out in Tamil with extraordinary screenplays and star casts. From brilliant directors such as K Balachander, Balu Mahendra, and Bharathiraja to actors such as Sivaji Ganesan, MGR, Rajinikanth, and Kamal Haasan, Tamil cinema has reached new heights. A movie is basically a work of art by the director. This September will see the arrival of three such brilliant directors from the Tamil film universe.
In 2001, Gautham Menon entered the world of Tamil films by directing the heartfelt drama film Minnale. The super success of Kaakha Kaakha, which was released in 2003, gave him the super director title. Gautham Menon directed a segment in Netflix’s anthology series Kutty Story and Puthu Puthu Kaalai. Presently, he is returning to the big screen with his favourite actor, Silambarasan, with the film Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu. The trailer of Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu itself was extremely fascinating. The film is scheduled for release on September 15.
The film Kaathal Kondein, released in 2003, was a wave among the audience at that time. The film is considered a game changer for Dhanush as it launched him into the class of big actors in Tamil cinema. This Selvaraghavan film is viewed as the best work of his filmography. After the disappointment of his last movie, NGK, he was taking some time off from directing movies. He played a little part in the recently released film, Beast. Presently, he is returning as a director with his most recent film, Naane Varuvean. This film signifies the rejoining of Selvaraghavan and Dhanush after Mayakkam Enna. The official teaser for the film will be released tomorrow at 6.40pm. They are planning a release date of September 29 for this film.
Maniratnam will be the highest-ranked director in this group. In 1983, He made his directorial debut by directing the Kannada film Pallavi Anu Pallavi. At around the same time, he won the Best Screenplay award at the prestigious Karnataka Government Film Awards. The last Maniratnam film released in theatres was the multi-starrer Chekka Chivantha Vaanam in 2019. Following a break of three years, a Maniratnam film is stirring things up around town once more. Based on the 1955 novel by Kalki, his film Ponniyin Selvan will be released in two parts. Ponniyin Selvan 1, featuring Vikram, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Aiswarya Rai, Trisha Krishnan, Sobhita Dhulipala, etc., is booked for a September 30 release in Tamil, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, and Telugu. It’s also the first Tamil language film to get an IMAX release.
