Shahrukh Khan needs no introduction as he is synonymous with Indian Cinema for many International markets. In India, the man is nothing less than the benchmark for romance. Little do the people know that Shahrukh has some experimental films in his career that usually go unacknowledged.
One such film is his experimental but criminally underrated movie Paheli. Hardcore Shahrukh Khan fans might be aware of the film but it is more or less lost in obscurity.
But in reality, it is highly inspired by the 1973 Mani Kaul film Duvidha.
The film apart from Khan stars Rani Mukerji, Juhi Chawla, Amitabh Bachchan, Anupam Kher, and Rajpal Yadav in important roles.
The story is highly interesting. Kishan marries a rich girl Lachchi from the village and is on a journey to return to his home. In the middle of the way, they stop at a Dharmshala where a ghost sees and starts liking Lachchi. Due to some engagement, Kishan has to leave for 5 long years and he doesn’t even get time for informing his newly wed wife.
When Lachchi arrives at her in-laws home, the dilemma becomes prominent and the film becomes even more interesting.
Paheli is available to stream on Netflix and is a must-watch on holiday.
