Zee5 is gearing up to make a biopic web series on Indian football legend Krishanu Dey in the coming months. To be directed by Korok Murmu, the eight-episode series will see Maharashtra-based actor Anurag Urha reprise the role of the footballer who was once called the Indian Maradona. The highly revered footballer who was at his prime in the 80s and early 90s had died in 2003 owing to a series of illnesses.
The series will chronicle the highs and lows of his career and his performance in several tournaments like the 1986 Asiad, Merdeka, pre-Olympics and SAFF Games, and the 1992 Asia Cup. The footballer’s wife Sharmila conveying the news to the media expressed her happiness at the efforts surrounding the web series.
The story will be told from the perspective of a German researcher who comes to India for her work. Tentatively, the makers have planned the release in August and it’s likely that they could go for a two-season show.
