A24 To Produce More Action & Big IP Projects, Shifts From Art Films

In the last decade, A24 has positioned itself as a force to be reckoned with in Hollywood. The studio has cultivated a tremendous fanbase, thanks to its amazing taste in movies. It has bestowed plenty of outstanding films to the viewers, like Ex Machina (2015), The Witch (2016), Moonlight (2016), Lady Bird (2017), Midsommar (2019), Uncut Gems (2019), Everything Everywhere All At Once (2022), and more. A24 films are known for being unconventional and eccentric among viewers. But this approach has allowed the studio to stand out among the big players, such as Warner Bros Discovery, Disney, and more. Now, A24 is looking to produce more large-scale franchises and IP projects.

According to The Wrap, Noah Sacco, A24’s acquisition executive, has spent his entire summer looking for “action and big IP projects” for the studio. It means that A24 will reduce its focus on conventional character/auteur-driven drama projects.

“Everyone in the independent film space is aware that A24 needs to pivot to more commercial films alongside its arthouse slate. With a $2.5 billion valuation, it’s pretty obvious that they need to expand into more commercial films,” a distribution executive explained in his report.

This decision came after the disastrous box office performance of Ari Aster’s Beau Is Afraid. This Joaquin Phoenix starrer lost nearly $35 million.

A24’s forthcoming projects are Sofia Coppola’s Priscilla, Raven Jackson’s All Dirt Roads Taste of Salt, and Kristoffer Borgli’s Dream Scenario. Stay tuned for more updates.
