‘What the f*** is this?’ Yep, many of you might have this exact reaction after watching the latest official trailer for A24’s Opus, starring Ayo Edebiri and John Malkovich in the leading roles.
This feature from writer-director Mark Anthony Green is set to arrive in theatres on March 14. In addition to the leading duo, the cast includes talents such as Juliette Lewis, Murray Bartlett, Amber Midthunder, Young Mazino, Stephanie Suganami, and Tony Hale.
“Opus” follows a young author, Ariel (Edebiri), who’s assigned to interview the reclusive pop star, Alfred Moretti (Malkovich). After decades of absence, Moretti’s return is met with intense fascination and devotion from his fans. However, Ariel soon discovers that Moretti manipulates this fervent following to serve his own enigmatic and potentially harmful agenda.
They say, “Don’t meet your heroes.” But what about celebrities? Maybe they’re even more dangerous. Just kidding!
Ariel tries to uncover what Moretti and his followers are actually up to. She even confronts Moretti with her doubts, to which he cryptically replies, “Would you like to see?”
Opus is Green’s feature directorial debut. The film is a joint production of Makeready and Macro Film Studios, with distribution handled by A24.
Ayo Edebiri is best known for her Emmy-winning role in FX’s The Bear. She has also lent her voice to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem and Inside Out 2.
Meanwhile, Opus marks veteran actor John Malkovich’s first feature project of the year. He is also set to appear in Marvel Studios’ The Fantastic Four: First Steps.
