Filmmaker Basil Joseph has won the award of Best Director at Asian Academy Creative Awards for Minnal Murali. The runner up for the award was Gekidan Hitori of Japan for the movie ‘Asakusa Kid’.
If you do not follow Basil Joseph’s filmography, you must have missed a few masterpieces from the Malayalam Film Industry. There is not a speck of doubt that it is the Malayalam industry that is ahead of all others in the country right now. Apart from the 2021 superhero comedy thriller Minnal Murali, Basil Joseph has directed wonderful movies like ‘Godha’, ‘Kunjiramayanam’, and ‘Oru Thundu Padam’.
Minnal Murali is the story of Jaison wjo runs a tailoring shop and is heartbroken because his girlfriend is marrying somebody else. On the other hand, there is Shibu who has one-sided love for a girl Usha. Both the men get strucl by lightning but don’t die and they eventually witness strange changes happening to themselves. The visuals of the movie is awesome, along with great background score. The protagonist and antagonist of the movie is played by Tovino Thomas and Guru Somasundaram. The cast includes actors like Baiju, Harisree Asokan, Femina George in other important characters.
Watch also the 2013 movie ‘Oru Thundu Padam’ from the same director. It stars actors like Blessy Curien, Jithin Lal, Aju Verghese, Sanand Sivadas. It is a wonderfully directed short film where two strangers meet in a taxi and the male passengers tries to impress the female.
‘Kunjiramayanam’ is a 2015 comedy and tells the story of Kunjiraman who lives in a remote old village Desam in Kerala and the village is a strange world full of myths and legends. It stars Vineeth Srinivasan, Dhyan Srinivasan and other actors. This is a highly underrated movie and you should not miss this one.
