As promised, Sai Pallavi dropped the trailer of the upcoming contemplative Malayalama drama, Aarkkariyam on her official social media platform. Aarkkariyam means “Who knows” and it is an aptly named title for a film which is set in the time during the nation-wide lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic. The movie is expected to release in theaters next month. Check out Sai Pallavi’s twitter post at the end of this article.
The trailer shows us that the film will be in a rural setting. A couple Shirley and Roy who is settled in Mumbai, come back to their home which is in the rural parts of Kerala during their time off. When the pandemic hits all around the country, they get stuck at home, with only Shirley’s uncle, a retired school teacher and their house caretaker for company.
The trailer takes a more philosophical turn on the pandemic, with their uncle contemplating about God and the way God works to influence people. There are other issues in the background, regarding money and food, but in their isolation, we find that three of them bond during their time together. The trailer gives us a mixed reaction of a feel-good movie as well as think about the ongoing lives of others who were stuck in one place during the coronavirus pandemic.
Parvathy Thiruvothu and Sharafudheen are really good in this trailer and we only expect their performances to get even better in the movie, but Biju menon is in a class of his own. The veteran actor who has been doing a lot more comedy films lately, has finally taken up a dramatic role after a long time, and he is almost unrecognizable in this movie. We would invite people to watch the feature film, just for Biju Menon’s acting alone.
Sanjay John Varghese directed Aarkkariyam will release in theaters next month, on April 3rd 2021.
