Coronavirus Lockdown has come as a boon to the OTT Revolution. However, the opportunity has come at short notice and so, the OTT platforms are also finding it difficult to churn the content needed to engage their subscribers. Along with the films that will skip their theatrical release, the OTT platforms are also bagging the films which were cans for a long time.
The filmmakers who are in distress are offloading the rights of the films to the OTT platforms. Amazon Prime Video is acquiring such films aggressively. In its scheme of things, Guvva Gorinka in Telugu and Maara in Tamil are such films. These films have been in production for around three years. We do not know the commercial aspects involved in such deals. But the makers and even the cast of the film disown them and abandon them without promotions.
Forget about promotions, the cast does not even mention them. That is what happening with Guvva Gorinka and Maara. They come and go without the audience knowing. Despite Satyadev and Madhavan having the ability to bring decent buzz for the films have abandoned the movie for obvious reasons. Even if the rights were managed at throwaway prices, Amazon Prime Video is risking its reputation with such films.
