Every week, Netflix puts out a list of the top trending films and series, and this time, only one Indian title has made the list that being The Diplomat. The film dropped on the platform two weeks ago, and while it’s holding on in the Top 10, it’s also the only Indian presence there. That says something.
For the past three to four weeks, there’s been a noticeable lull when it comes to Indian content on Netflix. No new series which gets people excited, no talked-about movies, nothing that makes people say, “You have to watch this.” It’s disappointing, especially considering how much talent and potential we have. Streaming platforms are where audiences go for fresh and exciting content, and lately, it feels like the spark is missing when it comes to Indian movies.
Even the titles that do get released seem to come and go without making much noise. They either lack strong marketing or just don’t have the punch to hook viewers in. And when there’s no buzz, the shows and films just sink without a trace.
It’s frustrating to see this kind of dry spell. Netflix has been home to some fantastic Indian content in the past, so the current silence feels even louder.
Let’s hope this is just a short phase and not a long-term trend. Because Indian stories deserve to shine and Netflix needs to step up again.
