Abundatia Entertainment, known for its film and web shows like ‘Airlift’, ‘Shankuntala Devi’, ‘Breathe’ and most recently ‘Sarfira’, has unveiled its upcoming slate which is not only ambitious but is designed keeping in mind the younger audience, both locally and globally.
This includes content focused for theatres and for OTT as well because the production house realises that OTT has ushered in a change in viewing pattern that has made people very protective of their time as expressed by Abundntia’s CEO Vikram Malhotra.
In movies category there is Prime Video Original film ‘Chhorii 2’ by Vishal Furia. A sequel to the 2021 horror film ‘Chhorii’, the film stars Nushrratt Bharuccha and Soha Ali Khan. The story follows Sakshi who must rescue her seven-year-old daughter from being sacrificed by an evil cult to satisfy Pradhan Ji, their resident leader, while fighting societal superstitions and the horror that continues to haunt her and young women around her.
Then there’s Laal’, a true crime feature film set in middle India. Directed by Jai Mehta (‘Scam 1992’), the film promises to retell one of the most challenging cases ever handled by Indian investigative agencies.
The most anticipated film in this upcoming slate by Abundantia Entertainment is Anil Kapoor starrer ‘Subedaar’. An action drama film directed by Suresh Triveni (‘Jalsa’), it aims to tap into an underserved demographic with its age-appropriate action hero.
In ‘Subedaar’, grappling with the sudden demise of his wife, retired Army-man Subedaar Arjun Singh returns to his daughter and to a hometown riddled with corruption and ruled by the ruthless sand mafia. When an inconsequential fight between him and Prince, the despicable scion of the mafia, escalates, the morally upright Subedaar, who once valiantly fought for the nation at the border, has to now combat the enemies within.
In the web shows category, there is Bhumi Pednekar led ‘Daldal’ set to launch globally on Amazon Prime Video. Directed by ‘Gullak’ fame Amrit Raj Gupta, in ‘Daldal’ haunted by the guilt of her past and dealing with the demons of her present, Mumbai’s newly-appointed DCP Rita Ferreira, must embark on an investigation that puts her on a collision course with Anita, a cold-blooded killer, even as she has to save her life from falling apart.
The upcoming slate also includes projects from directors like Randeep Jha (Netflix’s ‘Kohrra’), Mayank Sharma (Prime Video’s ‘Breathe’), Bhav Dhulia (Disney+ Hotstar’s ‘The Freelancer’), Palash Vaswani (SonyLIV’s ‘Gullak’) and Himank Gaur (Disney+ Hotstar’s ‘Taaza Khabar’). Abundantia is also developing a business drama series with acclaimed filmmaker Hansal Mehta (Netflix’s ‘Scoop’, SonyLIV’s ’Scam 1992’).
In a recent interview with an international publication, Vikram Malhotra, CEO Abundantia Entertainment said that the company’s primary focus has shifted towards “stories with high novelty value, told by younger, more progressive minds and decidedly for a younger audience”.
