Acclaimed Bengali film ‘Projapoti’ did extremely well at the box office, when it released in the theatres in December 2022. Projapoti marked the return of Mithun Chakraborty to Bengali cinema after a gap of four years. The emotional drama film is still running in theatres in West Bengal, and has become the third highest grossing Bengali film of all time.
Projapati is now all set to release on OTT, much to the delight of cinema enthusiasts. The streaming rights for the Bengali film have been acquired by ZEE5. The ‘Projapoti’ OTT release date on ZEE5 is 14th April, which is two weeks away.
Mithun Chakraborty and Dev play the lead roles in ‘Projapoti’. The duo plays a father and son, with a unique emotional attachment between them. Gaur Chakraborty (Mithun) is retired, and his life revolves around his wedding planner son Joy (Dev). Joy, though extremely busy with his work, is hesitant to marry, as he fears marriage might take him away from his father. However, the equation between the father and his son changes with the entry of Gaur’s college friend Kusum (Mamata Shankar) in their life, causing an upheaval in the Chakraborty household. Besides the father-son relationship, Projapoti also questions social conventions, and touches one’s heart in the guise of a comedy.
‘Projapoti’ marks the reunion of Mithun Chakraborty and actress Mamata Shankar, 46 years after they starred together in Mrinal Sen’s National Award-winning film, Mrigayaa (1976). Projapoti also stars Sweta Bhattacharya, Kharaj Mukherjee, Ambarish Bhattacharya, Biswanath Basu, Koneenica Banerjee and Koushani Mukherjee among others. The film is produced by Dev Entertainment Ventures, and directed by Avijit Sen.
