Cinema is a means of artistic expression and it is extremely subjective. But sometimes, audiences must reject a movie if it serves cringe in the name of cinema. The teaser of Om Raut’s Adipurush fell exactly into that category.
The teaser was unanimously and brutally bashed and even advised to shelve the whole project. However, the makers have taken a rational decision and pulled off their movie from the Sankranti release.
Yes, Adipurush is postponed as it should have been.
Gone are the days when Indian audiences would tolerate anything in the name of the animation. Now that people have access to Hollywood movies and homegrown films such as RRR, Brahmāstra to an extent then it was childish to expect people to tolerate the horrible VFX of Adipurush.
The makers tried to whitewash the game by inviting some critics to the 3D premiere of the trailer but it all went in vain. As a result, the audience panned the critics but didn’t accept the movie. Also, there is tough competition in Telugu market for Adipurush during Sankranthi to pull big numbers even though the talk is positive. If the film gets negative response it will be a washout as other films Waltair Veerayya and Veera Simha Reddy are mass commerical entertainers for festive season.
Good animation takes time and finally Adipurush will get that within the period it stays in development.
But the most remarkable observation of this event has to be the way makers listened. They didn’t fall into their petty arrogance and released the movie as it is. We hope more filmmakers take a lesson from this.
