Adipurush Makers In Full-On Damage Control

After all the bashing heaped on the Adipurush teaser, the producers and director of the film are in full-on damage control mode. The teaser of ‘Adipurush’ dropped this Sunday, and was instantly criticised for its terrible VFX, poor characterisation of Hanuman and Ravana, and heavy reliance on computer-generated animation.

Even as Twitter erupted in a meme-fest the likes of which we’ve never seen before, verified handles heavily criticized the blatant butchering of beloved characters of the ancient Indian epic.

All the criticism, condemnation and censure of the Adipurush teaser has sent its producers, T-Series, and its director Om Raut scurrying for cover. The makers of Adipurush have embarked on spiralling dislike for the Adipurush teaser.

Apparently, producers T-Series have showcased the Adipurush teaser in 3D on the big screen to select industry trackers and film journalists. Not just that, the makers seem to have paid these blue-ticked cinema influencers to praise the 3D Adipurush teaser to the skies. So, after the bashing yesterday, Twitter is full of praise for the Adipurush teaser as “an altogether fresh and big experience, a project designed for the theatrical experience”.

Also, T-Series and Adipurush director Om Raut are planning to release the Adipurush teaser in theatres across the country in the coming weeks. They hope that watching the teaser in 3D on the big screen will sway audience support their way.

Our opinion: By showcasing the Adipurush teaser on the big screen, the makers might influence viewers’ opinion on the quality of the VFX and computer graphics. But what of the terrible characterisations of Lord Rama, Lord Hanuman and Ravana? How will Adipurush makers cover their tracks there? Both Hanuman and Ravana have been given distinctly Islamic looks. Ravana, as Twitter has emphasised with memes and jibes, is looking like an Islamic invader from Central Asia, a la Gengis Khan. What of that? How will they improve that? Rework the entire film?

To put it bluntly, whatever steps the makers of Adipurush take to sway public opinion in favour of Adipurush, the damage has been done. And it has already spiralled out of control. No amount of damage control can turn the tide now.

Not even Lord Rama can help Bollywood, T-Series, Adipurush or its star Prabhas now!
