British actor and filmmaker Stephen Graham is stunned by the unexpected success of his latest series, Adolescence, in India. The four-part limited series, which premiered on Netflix on March 14, quickly climbed to the top of the platform’s global most-watched list. However, it was the overwhelming response from Indian viewers that truly caught Graham off guard.
Speaking to Rolling Stone, he recalled his initial reaction when a friend told him about the show’s popularity in India. “I got a text from a mate of mine, telling me how big Adolescence is in India,” he said. “And my first response was, ‘Hold on, did you say India?!’ Apparently, it’s really striking a nerve there.”
Naturally, the show immediately picked up the attention of Indian critics and viewers after the release. There were a lot of discussions and controversy. But the good content always triumphs over other factors and we are not very sure why Mr Graham is so surprised by the response in India.
