Hotstar was written off by many in a few months of its launch, but it clearly seems to be making a turnaround in terms of its viewer count this season of the year. Besides releasing impressive series like Criminal Justice, Hostages, City of Dreams, Hotstar had grabbed a lot of eyeballs by being the official streaming partner for big cricketing events like IPL and the ICC Cricket World Cup.
The recently concluded IPL witnessed record traction for the platform and the World Cup season too is proving no different. Generating a viewer count of 2.5 million on an average for every match to date, looks the wide range of features including the impeccable visual quality, the regional commentary in five languages, the dugout-commentary have convinced spectators to turn towards the platform over television.
If Hotstar plans its year well, it should come up with more series and originals to keep this momentum going. In terms of sports viewership, as of now, there’s hardly any competition for Hotstar in the digital circuit. Are the big bosses listening?
