While the trend of re-releases is high now, a Bengali blockbuster is returning to the theaters again. ‘Chander Pahar’ is adapted from the adventure novel of the same name by Bibhutibhushan Bandyopadhyay and is directed by Kamaleshwar Mukherjee.
Chander Pahar stars Dev in the lead role and tells the story of Shankar, an adventurous Bengali young man who just got a job in the African wilderness. Shankar is struggling in Africa while he meets a traveler named Diego Alvarez in quite bad condition and saves his life. Alvarez tells him the secret of the ‘mountain of moon’. It is told that there are mines of diamonds there but whoever goes inside does not ever come back. Alvarez and Shankar set out to find the mountain of moon out. But in their journey, they are attacked again and again.
The performances in the movie are truly extraordinary and it is very rare for a Bengali film to have a story told with this range and budget. The music of the film is given by Raviranjan Maitra and the cinematography is handled by Soumik Haldar.
