Looking to neutralise the impact of its tremendous box office loss, Pa. Vijay’s Aghathiyaa has found its OTT release date in India. Starring Jiiva, Raashii Khanna, and Arjun Sarja, this joint production from Wam India and Vels Film International will premiere digitally on Sun NXT on March 28.
The road to Aghathiyaa‘s theatrical release hasn’t been easy. The film has endured multiple delays, beginning during the COVID-19 pandemic. The latest setback occurred in January this year due to poor visuals and VFX. Moreover, it suffered from a serious lack of promotion.
Beyond these challenges, the movie itself failed to impress critics and audiences alike.
As a result, Aghathiyaa tanked at the box office, earning a mere INR 2.15 crores during its theatrical run—a shockingly low figure. Naturally, this must have prompted the makers to drop the project on an Indian OTT platform as soon as possible.
The film centers on a haunted house that ensnares a young art director and his fiancée, compelling them to delve into the building’s hidden history from the 1940s.
Jiiva plays a dual role in this one—an art director named Aghathiyan and a freedom fighter named Nanjilan—while Raashii Khanna portrays Aghathiyan’s fiancée, Veena. The rest of the cast includes talents like Arjun Sarja, Radha Ravi, Yogi Babu, Rohini, Poornima Bhagyaraj, and more.
