Lin-Manuel Miranda without doubt is one of the multi talented people in Hollywood at the moment. He is credited as a singer, writer, actor, director, producer, Broadway artist, playwright and even a rapper. He has a bunch of his creations coming out this year and some that have already been released. Now, the latest news is that his upcoming musical animated film “Vivo” will be releasing on Netflix pretty soon.
“Vivo” was supposed to release in theatres on June 4 this year, but for unknown reasons at the moment, the movie will be releasing on Netflix. The movie is originally backed by Sony Pictures and many are assuming that it is the deal between Sony Pictures and Netflix that led to this.
This fact is easily ruled out as Netflix doesn’t have any rights over movies released by Sony Pictures before 2022. Sony Pictures still has the rights for the movies in China and other home entertainment and television rights. This will be entertained after the Netflix exclusivity period gets over.
Vivo tells a beautiful story of a honey bear, named Vivo who lives with his owner Andres. He plays music in the circles of Havana entertaining everyone. Things change, when his owner Andres is invited to a rather important meeting of his life and Vivo takes it upon himself to help Andres get through and get him to Miami, for this meeting with a rather important person from Andres’ life.
Vivo is directed by “The Croods” filmmaker Kirk DeMicco and produced by Lisa Stewarts, Rich Moore and Michelle L. M. Wong. Lin-Manuel Miranda voices the titular character of Vivo. The voice cast for the movie includes Zoe Saldana, Gloria Estefan, Brian Tyree Henry, Nicole Byer and newcomer Ynairaly Simo.
This is the second movie of Miranda’s that is releasing digitally. His latest “Hamilton” was also scheduled for a theatrical release last year, but the makers changed its course and released it on Disney+.
Netflix off late has been growing its animation slate with a bunch of animated movies making its way to the streaming platform. The streaming platform is bringing some really strong topics in the form of animation movies. In fact, Netflix’s very own animated short film “If Anything Happens I Love You”, just won the Academy award for Best Short Film (Animated). The movie tells the story of a parents’ grief after they lose their child in a school shooting.
