It is quite a successful year for Prasenjit Chatterjee. After appearing in projects like ‘Jubilee’ and Hansal Mehta’s upcoming ‘Scoop’, Prasenjit is now all set to appear in the big screens playing an iconic and legendary role.

Devi Chowdhurani is a novel written by Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay that Chronicles the ‘Sannyasi and Fakir Rebellion’ in 1776. Monks and religious leaders protested against the tyranny of Zamindars and British officials with the leadership of Devi. The story of Devi is as follows, a young and innocent girl was estranged from the in-laws and went on to a jungle in despair. She finds a huge treasure and the guard of the treasure named Bhavani Pathak. Bhavani Pathak trains her in every way and prepares her to lead his cult.

Prasenjit Chatterjee will be seen in the role of the calm and fierce monk Bhavani Pathak. The actor has shared the poster and expressed his excitement through Twitter. The film is going to go on floors by Autumn next year. As we already know, S.S Rajamouli is also planning to produce a movie that will be adapted from another of Bankim’s novels ‘Anandamath’. Bankim Chandra’s novels are full of patriotic integrity and stories of valor and courage. Devi Chowdhurani has been adapted many times in TV, plays and movies, the first time having the legendary Suchitra Sen in the titular role. It will be exciting to see what filmmaker Shubrajit Mitra does with the story.
