After Netflix, Paramount Cancels A Future Masterpiece For Absurd Reason

Netflix recently canceled the sequel to “A Knight’s Tale” based on algorithms, and this excuse isn’t going away anytime soon, especially as Paramount joins in with one of their future projects. This time, based on the basic plot, Paramount is dropping gold down the drain.

In 2022, the internet celebrated as “Guru Nation” was announced, with rumors of Bob Odenkirk working with David Cross after decades. However, now Paramount has canceled it.

The hype surrounding the eight-episode limited series wasn’t just from fans; it also went through a bidding war involving four major platforms. Despite the high demand, Paramount later dropped the highly anticipated title for what appears to be an irritating reason.

“We went with Paramount+, and we wrote up the first four episodes and then a really specific, extensive bible for the last four — all of which we had pitched, like, ‘Here’s the story, here are the characters and here’s how it would work,’” Cross narrated.

Later, Cross added, “And then they said no, which was weird because it was what we pitched.”

David Cross then mentioned that Paramount+ canceled the series due to the lack of understanding and interest from the marketing and analytics department.

He emphasized the significant influence of marketing departments on development decisions, criticizing their power over creative projects. Cross highlighted the importance of marketing departments being able to creatively promote preexisting concepts for successful execution.

If Paramount had executed it perfectly, the show had all the potential to be successful, not just in terms of casting but also because the plot was something new. Talking about advertisement, if the team didn’t understand it, scrapping the show is definitely one of the worst decisions they could have made.
