SonyLIV seems to have found its rhythm with Telugu content.
A couple of days ago, The Hunt: The Rajiv Gandhi Assassination Case emerged as a hit, thanks to its execution of SonyLIV. Lately they have nailed all the documentaries they have created.
Now, SonyLIV is betting big on a Telugu original: MayaSabha, a political drama headlined by Aadhi Pinisetty. The show, inspired by Telugu political history, promises a layered, character-driven narrative.
The teaser hints at a fictional power struggle set against the backdrop of real socio-political dynamics. But here’s the challenge, MayaSabha doesn’t have the raw thriller urgency of The Hunt. It leans into political idealism, party rivalries, and ideology over action.
Can it hook the same audience?
While The Hunt had clarity in genre and intent, MayaSabha appears more ambitious, potentially bordering on being self-serious. It will need tight writing, grounded performances, and a smart balance between fiction and reality to avoid becoming preachy or indulgent.
SonyLIV’s current momentum with regional dramas could work in its favour. But the real test lies in whether MayaSabha can maintain attention beyond its premise, and deliver a gripping political narrative without collapsing under the weight of its own ambition.
The streaming battleground is wide open. MayaSabha needs more than just good intentions.
