Amala Paul‘s newest OTT project is an upcoming sci-fi thriller series called ‘Kudi Yedamaithe‘. This web series will release this weekend and it starts off by getting its two lead characters stuck in a time loop. Supernatural and horror flicks aside, this is something new in the Telugu (and South-Indian) film Industry – with its foray into the sci-fi fantasy category. The trailer for this upcoming series is quite compelling, so check it out at the end of this article.
Over the past few decades, there have been very rare sci-fi thriller films (or TV series) coming out of the main four South-Indian film industries. Sure, there have been more than enough horror and supernatural films, but content based around science fiction have been considerably low. One of the leading factors regarding that, which we can easily guess, is CGI. CGI created by production companies are rarely of good quality, especially the ones tied up with South-Indian film industries. Another factor is the rarity of such stories. Because the South-Indian audience has a specific taste, most old-school directors and scriptwriters used to stick to their guns and write familiar stories.
However, we are now going through the third decade of the 21st century and people value good content, no matter the genre. International Sci-fi films and TV series have been well received by the Indian audience in the past, so now would be the perfect time to try out some Sci-fi concepts in content. Plus with the rise of OTTs, the length of a film can be adjusted and be made longer – which can be split and be made into a mini-series. And depending on the reception of ‘Kudi Yedamaithe’, we could be looking at the start of something new.
Amala Paul starring Telugu web series ‘Kudi Yedamaithe’ will premiere on Aha Video, tomorrow, on 16th July 2021.
