Not many franchises can compete with Star Wars in terms of longevity and success. What started as a single space-opera adventure flick has now turned into a space saga with infinite possibilities for future expansion. Rosario Dawson’s upcoming Ahsoka Disney+ series is just another attempt by Lucasfilm to expand the space saga. Although, it will not be wise to treat the show lightly. It possesses all the abilities to emerge as an all-time Star Wars classic.
First, let’s talk about the series’ protagonist, Ahsoka. The former Jedi Padawan of Anakin Skywalker has a rich history in the Star Wars canon. Plus she shared a close connection with Obi-Wan Kenobi. The trio was responsible for spoiling countless Count Dooku’s plans during the Clone Wars. However, she deserved better treatment at the hands of the Jedi Order. This scenario eventually forced her to leave the Order, becoming one of the primary reasons behind Anakin joining the Dark Side. She also faces Darth Vader (Anakin) in Rebels Season 2. Additionally, we have witnessed the character aiding Luke Skywalker in restoring the Jedi Order in The Book of Boba Fett series. The upcoming show can explore her character in new and exciting ways.
Also, we have Grand Admiral Thrawn, making his live-action debut with the Ahsoka series. The fan-favourite character first appeared in Timothy Zahn’s 1991 novel Heir to the Empire. He also shares an interesting connection with the Skywalkers. Apart from Emperor Palpatine, Thrawn has also attempted to lure Luke towards the Dark Side after realising his potential. In the Thrawn trilogy of Star Wars novels, he kidnaps Leia Organa (Luke’s sister) to manipulate Luke towards joining the Empire. But his plan fails, and Luke escapes with Leia.
Thrawn belongs to a blue-coloured humanoid species, Chiss. He joins the Empire at an early age and rises quickly through the ranks, eventually becoming a Grand Admiral. His ability of tactical brilliance and outmanoeuvring his opponents make him one of the most brilliant minds in the galaxy. In addition, he often gets the advantage in battle scenarios due to his immense knowledge of different cultures and species. His addition to the series creates new threats for Ahsoka, Sabine Wren, Hera Syndulla, and many Rebels. It will be interesting to see how Dawson’s character deals with Thrawn in the upcoming show.
Sabine is a proud Mandalorian warrior and a member of the Ghost crew. The character may appear in future seasons of The Mandalorian if they ever come out.
Overall, the events of the Ahsoka series may make Star Wars a more successful and cohesive shared franchise than before. The show stars Rosario Dawson, Natasha Liu Bordizzo, Hayden Christensen, Eman Esfandi, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Ray Stevenson, Genevieve O’Reilly, Lars Mikkelsen, and many more. It will release on Disney+ Hotstar in August this year. Stay tuned for more updates.
