Netflix has revealed new additions to the cast of its upcoming “Terminator Zero” anime series. Ahsoka star Rosario Dawson is one of the newest additions to the show. Produced by Netflix Animation and Skydance Television in collaboration with Japan’s Production I. G., the anime project expands the Terminator franchise.
Dawson will voice Kokoro, a Japanese AI giving direct competition to SkyNet. Other talents that have joined the cast are Sonoya Mizuno as Eiko (a resistance fighter), Ann Dowd as the Prophet (the resistance’s leader from the future), and André Holland as Malcolm (a scientist looking to create an AI to save the future). Mizuno is known for her work in HBO’s House of the Dragon. Dowd and Holland have starred in “The Handmaid’s Tale” and “Moonlight”, respectively.
“Terminator Zero” centers on Malcolm, a scientist determined to create an AI that can rival the destructive SkyNet. However, his ambition unleashes havoc when a cyborg assassin is sent to kill him, ensuring the arrival of Judgement Day in 1997. The stakes escalate when a soldier from the future arrives to protect Malcolm and his family, making them an integral part of a desperate fight to rewrite destiny.
Despite echoing the premise of previous Terminator entries, the forthcoming anime series stands out from other entries in the franchise, as it takes place entirely in Japan and shares no connection with the Connor family. Plus, it is the first-ever animated project in the franchise.
“Terminator Zero” will have eight episodes. It will premiere on Netflix on August 29, 2024. Stay tuned for more updates.
