Ajay Devgn’s biographical drama ‘Maidaan’ is all set for its OTT debut as the film is now available on rent on Amazon Prime Video. Released in theatres last month, ‘Maidaan’ could not manage much at the box office despite high anticipations from the film.
‘Maidaan’ had long been in production and was delayed many times due to various issues. This led to many expectations which the film could not fulfi and bombed terribly at the box office. Now that the film is available on digital media it will be interesting to see how it’s received here. (Also, if you wait for a few weeks you can watch the film without rent.)
A biographical sports drama ‘Maidaan’ is set during the golden era of Indian football that lasted a decade from 1952 to 1962. It follows the inspiring story of Syed Abdul Rahim (played by Ajay Devgn), a former player turned football coach and manager of the nation Indian team from 1950 until his death in 1963. Rahim had achieved the feat of leading the Indian team to the semi finals of the 1956 Melbourne Olympics Football Tournament making India the first Asian country to have done so.
‘Badhaai Ho’ director Amit Sharma has helmed ‘Maidaan’ with a story by Akash Chawla, Arunava Joy Sengupta and Saiwyn Quadrasi who has also written the screenplay for the film. Other than Ajay Devgn, the film stars Priyamani (‘The Family Man’), Gajaraj Rao (‘Badhaai Ho’, ‘Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan’), Rudranil Ghosh and Nitanshi Goel among others.
Maidaan is produced by Zee Studios in association with Bayview Projects LLP. Boney Kapoor, Arunava Joy Sengupta and Akash Chawla have bankrolled the film. ‘Maidaan’ is streaming now on rent on Amazon Prime Video.
