Ajay Devgn’s long-delayed sports drama ‘Maidaan’ will hit theatres on 10th April, 2024. The release date of Maidaan in theatres coincides with the Eid 2024 festival in India, arguably one of the most lucrative festivals to release a movie in India. Maidaan has been languishing in the cans without a release since several years now, and it’s heartening to note that the Ajay Devgn film will finally see the light of day.
Besides the Eid holiday, another factor that is likely to work in favour of Maidaan is that the movie releases on the heels of Ajay Devgn’s currently-in-theatres smash hit, ‘Shaitaan’. A hit film from an actor makes audiences conducive towards watching more films of the same actor. Maidaan is likely to draw in audiences on this favourable point too.
However, one element that could stand in the way of Maidaan’s success is that another much-awaited film has also set up its theatrical release date on the same date. Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff’s ‘Bade Miyan Chote Miyan’, shortened to BMCM, also hits theatres on 10th April, as an Eid release.
It remains to be seen which film will find favour with film-goers in the theatres – Maidaan or Bade Miyan Chote Miyan.
‘Maidaan’ is produced by Boney Kapoor, along with Akash Chawla, Arunava Joy Sengupta and Zee Studios. It is directed by Amit Sharma, who has earlier directed the hit film, Badhaai Ho. The film stars Ajay Devgn in the lead role, along with South actress Priyamani. ‘Maidaan’ is a sports biopic film, with a very interesting subject at its core.
The film tells the story of Indian national football team coach and manager Syed Abdul Rahim, who is widely considered as the architect of Indian football. Ajay Devgn plays the role of Syed Abdul Rahim in ‘Maidaan’. Gajraj Rao plays a prominent role in ‘Maidaan’, along with Rudranil Ghosh. Interestingly, ‘Maidaan’ will feature cameo appearances from several real life International football luminaries, including players, coaches and commentators.
