Ajeeb Daastaans and The Serpent Tops Netflix India’s Top 10 Lists

Netflix has been doing considerably well since the OTT giant came to India back in 2016. With a lot of original regional and international content, as well as some recurring ones – Netflix has managed to capture the attention of millions, all over the country. Take a look at this week’s top 10 trending films and TV shows, and check out the ones whose summary looks the most appealing:

Netflix India’s Top 10 Movies:

1. Ajeeb Daastaans
We kick off this list with the much-awaited anthology film, Ajeeb Daastaans. Netflix’s current number 1 spot is held by a movie that features four shorts that talk about various types of relationships and what happen to them when they meet an outside force.

2. Tuesdays and Fridays
This story is probably what many of us can relate to, especially those who do not have time for anything besides their career. Follow a young lawyer and writer who agree to be romantic partners for just two days a week in the film, Tuesdays and Fridays.

3. Roohi
The Horror-comedy, Roohi seems to have bagged the 3rd spot on this list. Rajkummar Rao and Janhvi Kapoor star in this film which tells the story of a ghost who adducts brides on their honeymoon.

4. Uppena
A lot more socially conscious movies have been making their way into mainstream media lately and Uppena is no different. This Telugu film follows a fisherman who falls in love with the daughter of the village leader. Complications arise, due to their difference in social status and caste.

5. Love and Monsters
Dylan O’Brien can’t stay away from the fantasy genre it seems, although, after the success of the Maze Runner film series and Teen Wolf TV series, it isn’t hard to understand why. Love and Monsters follows a young man trying to get to his high school sweetheart, who is 80 miles away. The only problem is the planet has been taken over by monsters.

6. Pagglait
Ranked 1 just a week ago, this delightful Hindi comedy-drama follows a young woman who recently became a widow. As she goes through her version of coming to terms with her late husband’s death, she makes a startling discovery about him.

7. Synchronic
Anthony Mackie and Jamie Dornan star in this 2019 sci-fi thriller. The movie follows two long time friends while are also paramedics as they stumble upon a psychedelic that will change everything we know about reality and time.

8. Godzilla: King of the Monsters
The third film in Legendary’s Monsterverse, Godzilla: King of the Monsters follows members of an organization called The Monarch as they get Godzilla and Mothra to fight King Ghidorah and Rodan.

9. POKEMON Detective Pikachu
This 2019 phenomenon took the world by storm when it became the first live-action Pokemon movie to grace the silver screen. The movie follows Tim, who travels to Ryme city to find out the cause of his father’s death.

10. Mandela
Although the name is somewhat misleading, Mandela is a Tamil political comedy-drama. Featuring comedian Yogi Babu, this film is set in a village where two rival political parties compete in the local elections to win at all costs. Due to a weird twist of fate, the election comes down to a single vote from a small-time barber.

Netflix India’s Top 10 Series

1. The Serpent
The Serpent continues its run of the most-watched series in India, during this week as well. The web series follows Charles Sobharaj, who famously preyed on travellers keen on exploring the “hippie trail” of South Asia.

2. Friends
One of the biggest shows which attracted Indians to Netflix, it might even be safe to say that this series will probably never leave this OTT platform… Until HBO Max finds a way to come to India that is. Friends follow 6 close friends who live in New York as they go through the ups and downs in life, together.

3. Money Heist
This thrilling heist web series has come up from number 5 to the number 3 spot on this list. Follow a rag-tag group of criminals who execute a plan masterminded by “The Professor”, to steal from the Royal Bank of Spain.

4. The Bold Type
Follow three millennials as they go through the ups and downs in life at a woman’s magazine. They balance their career, love life and their friendship as they adjust their lives in a modern city.

5. Bombay Begums
This Netflix original, as the name suggests, is a webs series set in modern-day Mumbai. Five ambitious women from different walks of life, from the aforementioned Indian city, try to achieve their dreams and work through their desires while battling their disappointments

6. Ginny & Georgia
A mature 15-year-old Ginny and her immature, 30-something mother, Georgia settle down in New England with her young brother Austin in a New England town. Follow them as they face everyday challenges while Georgia hides very important secrets from her kids.

7. The Blacklist
James Spader is brilliant in anything he appears and Blacklist is no different. A wanted fugitive mysteriously surrenders himself to the FBI and offers up deadly criminals to capture. His only condition – his handler has to be the new profiler, Elizabeth Keen.

8. Vincenzo
Vincenzo continues its popular run among the Indian Netflix subscribers. The TV series follows a Korean-Italian Mafia lawyer who decides to give a huge corporation a taste of their own medicine.

9. Peaky Blinders
This hit British TV series will drop its sixth and final season next year. So it makes sense many are catching up on the show before the last season airs. Peaky Blinders follow Thomas Shelby and his family who run a gang, based in Birmingham. Due to a mistake, he attracts the attention of Chester Campbell, an inspector, who decides to come after him.

10. Who Killed Sara?
This Mexican thriller series follow Alex, a man falsely convicted of murdering his sister. When he gets out, he hunts for the real murderer, so that he may exact his revenge.
