The platform may be new, but Bollywood producer seems to be still the go-to guy to get the industry kids launched. The latest on the list is Akansha Ranjan Kapoor. She is the daughter of Indian Television Academy (ITA) founders Anu and Sashi Ranjan. Alia Bhatt is her best friend.
Akansha will be making her debut with the Netflix Original, Guilty that has been recently announced. She will be playing a substantial part in it which is headed by Kiara Advani. The makers, it seems, have been impressed by the audition of Akansha for the role. They went ahead with the casting, without looking for any alternatives.
Guilty is a drama set in a collage that has rape accusation at the centre. What happens when a college heartthrob is accused of rape by a small-town girl is the basic premise. Akansha plays the small-town girl whereas Kiara will be essaying the part of the girlfriend of the heartthrob. It is through the perspective of Kiara that the narrative will unfold.
Ruchi Narain handles the direction of Guilty which marks Dharma Productions’ foray into the digital world through a new division Dharmatic Entertainment. Kanika Dhillon, who provided the screenplay for Anushka’s Size Zero and later went on to write Manmarziyaan and Kedarnath is behind Guilty as well. The shooting of the Netflix Original is expected to be completed by the end of September.
