This morning, the actor posted a short teaser on his social media handles, confirming the release date of his film, ‘Raksha Bandhan’. Akshay Kumar‘s Raksha Bandhan will release on the auspicious day of Rakhi 2022, which falls on August 11 this year.
Releasing Raksha Bandhan on August 11 kills two birds with one stone. The film will leverage the sentiments of the Rakhi festival, coming as it does in theatres on the exact same day as Rakhi. The film will also be able to leverage the extended weekend which falls just after Rakhi, which is a Thursday. Raksha Bandhan will get the following Saturday, Sunday and also the Independence Day holiday on Monday to bring audiences into theatres.
The timing and ambience will thus be just right for Raksha Bandhan to be a hit and Akshay Kumar to break the cycle of flops and the unfortunate jinx he’s been under lately. Of course, it all depends on the story and quality of the filmmaking of Raksha Bandhan. Given that it is written by Himanshu Sharma and Kanika Dhillon, and directed by the maverick Aanand L. Rai, we can be assured of the very best on both counts.
