Ali Fazal Joins Gerard Butler In Action Thriller ‘Kandahar’

Bollywood star Ali Fazal has kicked off shoot on his next Hollywood movie, an action thriller titled ‘Kandahar’. Fazal joins Hollywood star Gerard Butler in the film, set in the backdrop of Taliban-controlled Afghanistan. Filming, though, is taking place in Saudi Arabia. In fact, Kandahar will be the first Hollywood film to shoot entirely in Saudi Arabia.

Gerard Butler is playing an undercover CIA operative, who is stuck in hostile territory in Afghanistan after his cover is blown. He must get out of the country before elite special forces hunt him down. In order to do so, he must reach an extraction point in Kandahar, along with his Afghani translator. Needless to say, the film will be a thrilling ride, if the plot is anything to go by.

Kandahar is produced by Thunder Road Films, who’ve produced the John Wick film series. Capstone is the co-producer of the film. Director Ric Roman Waugh is helming the project. Former military intelligence officer Mitchell LaFortune has written the screenplay of the film. Gerard Butler has earlier worked with Ric Roman Waugh in Greenland and Angel Has Fallen.

While Ali Fazal’s role in Kandahar is still not clear, it is most likely that he will play the role of the Afghani translator of Gerard Butler’s character. Also joining the cast is Navid Negahban, of Homeland and 24 fame.

Ali Fazal is awaiting the release of his earlier Hollywood film, ‘Death On The Nile, which is stuck for release owing to various reasons.
