As per reports, Alia Bhatt will be the first female star to lead a film from Yash Raj Film’s popular ‘Spy Universe’ which features various fictional RAW agents.
The commercially successful franchise began in 2012 and includes films like ‘Ek Tha Tiger’, ‘Tiger Zinda Hai’, ‘War’ and the most recent one ‘Pathaan’. The upcoming films in the universe include ‘Tiger 3’, ‘War 2’ and ‘Tiger Vs Pathaan’.
As for the Alia Bhatt starrer YRF’s Spy Universe film, she is set to play the role of a “super agent” and the production for the same will start in 2024. Bhatt’s other upcoming works include Karan Johar’s ‘Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani’ and her Hollywood debut ‘Heart Of Stone’ where she stars alongside Gal Gadot and Jamie Drornan.
Up till now these Spy Universe films have been led by big A List male stars like Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan and Hrithik Roshan. Alia Bhatt breaks the mold by being the first woman spy leading the film.
It all started at Yash Raj Films with ‘Ek Tha Tiger’ and its sequel ‘Tiger Zinda Hai’ which was then later thought to be expanded into a shared universe. Though ‘War’ was once again a stand alone film without any direct connection with other films. For the first time a crossover was seen in Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Pathaan’ when Salman Khan made a special appearance in the film.
The success of the ‘Spy Universe’ franchise is such that it is the highest grossing Indian film franchise with mostly positive reviews for its films.
