Alien: Romulus To Dethrone Deadpool & Wolverine At Box Office

Fede Alvarez’s ‘Alien: Romulus’ has exceeded all expectations, with critics calling the film “the franchise saver.” The latest Alien entry is surely the scariest and strongest entry in the franchise in the last three decades. And it looks to dethrone Marvel Studios’ ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ at the global box office. Ridley Scott’s Scott Free Productions produced the movie.

According to Deadline, Alien: Romulus is expected to open with a $40 million weekend in the United States and Canada, and the overseas collection could go up to $35-40 million, taking the film’s total opening weekend collection up to $75-80 million. This scenario is fantastic for the latest Cailee Spaeny starrer, considering its $80 million budget.

Deadpool & Wolverine is expected to mint $30 million in total in the upcoming weekend and is set to find itself in the second spot. As of now, the film has grossed over $1.043 billion globally.

Alien: Romulus currently has an 83% ‘fresh’ critic score on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 129 reviews. It has been declared one of the best entries to the franchise by many critics. Alvarez has received praise for his direction. While it tries to bring the franchise back to basics, Romulus also feels like a movie of its own. It is scheduled for a theatrical release on August 16. It stars Cailee Spaeny, David Jonsson, Isabela Merced, Archie Renaux, Aileen Wu, and Spike Fearn. Stay tuned for more updates.
