Diehard fans of the ‘Alien’ films might be aware regarding the December 2020 announcement about an ‘Alien’ series being developed for Disney’s FX television channel.
The original ‘Alien’ film director Ridley Scott was to reportedly act as a producer for the series. Noah Hawley, who is the man behind acclaimed shows like ‘Fargo’ and ‘Legion’, was said to be involved with the ambitious project.
And now, in another exciting update for the ‘Alien’ series, Noah Hawley had revealed (via Vanity Fair) that filming for the series will commence next Spring, that is, somewhere around March to May next year, that is 2022.
Hawley also revealed important details regarding the rough plotline and the setting for the Alien series that is already in the works.
The first information that was disclosed was that the series will not revolve around the legendary protagonist Ripley, which was immortalized by Sigourney Weaver in the first four Alien ventures.
The reason mentioned by Hawley for not featuring Ripley’s character was that the character has already been beautifully explored in earlier films. He stated that “It’s not a Ripley story. She’s one of the great characters of all time, and I think the story has been told pretty perfectly, and I don’t want to mess with it.”
Another interesting detail that was given out was that the series would not be set in a spaceship unlike Ridley Scott’s ‘Alien’ and James Cameron’s sequel film ‘Aliens’. On the contrary, this time, the action-packed goings-on will take place on Earth and the story will ostensibly be set in the near future.
Showrunner Hawley also praised the exceptional work done by Hollywood legends Ridley Scott, James Cameron, and David Fincher with reference to the Alien films they directed.
Regarding the difference between those films and the upcoming series, Hawley said that “Those are great monster movies, but they’re not just monster movies. They’re about humanity trapped between our primordial, parasitic past and our artificial intelligence future—and they’re both trying to kill us. Here you have human beings and they can’t go forward and they can’t go back. So I find that really interesting.”
Until now, the audience has been treated with six Alien films that include two prequel films. The first film along with the prequels were directed by Ridley Scott. While the second Alien movie ‘Aliens’ was helmed by ‘Terminator’ director James Cameron. ‘Alien 3’ was helmed by David Fincher and the fourth Alien movie ‘Alien Resurrection’ was directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet.
Hawley had informed through the interview that he has already written the first two scripts for the Alien series. We hope that the much-anticipated project goes on the floor soon and that the series would be an exciting addition to the celebrated Alien franchise.
