While we swelter in the heat of the brutal Indian summer, this week has suddenly become the hottest week of the month. But the heat has nothing to do with the sun, and everything to do with the crowded film release calendar on OTT this week!
A sizeable number of Indian films are set to premiere on OTT this Friday, comprising diverse languages and genres. Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam and Telugu films are the cream of the lot. There’s also a hotly awaited Bollywood biggie that will premiere on OTT this Friday.
Without much ado, here’s the list of Indian films premiering on OTT this week –
1. Soppana Sundari – 12th May, Tamil, Disney Plus Hotstar
A financially troubled young girl lands the grand prize of a car in a raffle. However, even before the family can savour the joys of their win, several people show up to lay claim to the car. Starring Aishwarya Rajesh, Lakshmi Priyaa Chandramouli, Deepa Shankar, Karunakaran, Sathish Krishnan, Redin Kingsley, Mime Gopi, Sunil Reddy, Sha Ra, Bjorn Surrao and Thendral Raghunathan, among others. Written and directed by SG Charles.
2. Vikram Vedha – 12th May, Hindi, Jio Cinema
Vikram Vedha stars Hrithik Roshan and Saif Ali Khan in the lead roles. It is a remake of Pushkar Gayatri’s 2017 Tamil blockbuster film of the same name. The Hindi remake is also helmed by the duo. Saif Ali Khan plays upright police officer Vikram, while Hrithik Roshan plays dreaded gangster Vedha.
3. Thiruvin Kural – 12th May, Tamil, Netflix
Thiruvin Kural is a psychological action thriller film, that centres around a speech and hearing impaired youngster, his injured father, and how he single-handedly takes on a bunch of sinister human traffickers in a hospital. Stars Arulnithi, Bharathiraja, and Aathmika. Written and directed by Harish Prabhu
4. Rudhran – 14th May, Tamil, Sun NXT
Rudhran is a revenge action drama, that centres on a happy family man, whose parents and wife are killed by gangsters, prompting him to go on a revenge spree. The film stars Raghava Lawrence, R. Sarathkumar, Priya Bhavani Shankar, Nassar, Poornima Bhagyaraj, and Sharath Lohitashwa, and is directed by debutant director, S. Kathiresan.
5. Jawanum Mullapoovum – 12th May, Malayalam, Prime Video
Jawanum Mullapoovum is a Malayalam family drama film, which has elements of suspense and mystery in it. The film stars Shivada Nair, Sumesh Chandran, Rahul Madhav, Sini Abraham, and Devi Ajith, among others. It is helmed by debutant director, Raghu Menon.
6. Yaathisai – 12th May, Tamil, Prime Video
A historical fiction, action drama, centred on the famed Pandiyan King Ranadheera Pandiyan and his rivalry with Einar clan chief Kothi. Starring Shakthi Mithran, Seyon Rajalakshmi, Samar, Vaidhegi Amarnat, Guru Somasundaram, Chandrakumar, Semmalar Annam, Subathra and Vijay Seyon. Written and directed by Dharani Rasendran.
7. Magic – 12th May, Bengali, Adda Times
Magic is a Bengali-language psychological thriller film, centred on a troubled and depressed man, who falls in love with a girl in his office. His life takes a magical turn after that, and he discovers that he has a past-life connection with the girl. Written by Arnab Bhaumik and directed by Raja Chanda. Starring Ankush Hazra, Oindrila Sen, Payel Sarkar and Bidipta Chakraborty.

8. Shaakuntalam – Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi, Prime Video, most likely on 12th May
Historical and mythological drama, on the love between King Dushyant and Shakuntala. Starring Samantha Ruth Prabhu in the titular role of Shakuntala.
