After announcing a massive new slate of 69 titles last week on Prime Video India, let us top it up with the proverbial cherry on the cake. Most people don’t know that the streaming behemoth has launched a new, considerably cheaper subscription plan in India – called Prime Lite.
The subscription plan for Prime Video India is pegged at a much cheaper rate of ₹799 per year, as opposed to its annual plan – the considerably more expensive ₹1499 plan.
But the new Prime Lite plan comes with riders –
1. Subscribers can access Prime Video on only one device at a time.
2. Content is accompanied with ads, similar to the cheaper ad-supported tier Prime Video launched in the US.
3. Viewers can watch content only in a single HD resolution – no 4K resolution for Prime Lite members.
4. Prime Lite does not include other Prime facilities such as Music, Gaming, Reading, etc.
Other than that, Prime Lite also gives access to subscribers to the perks of Prime membership on its Amazon E-commerce app, such as free shipping, quick delivery and more.
Prime Lite is cheaper on the pocket and caters to the vast multitude in India that is looking for good entertainment at an affordable price. Interestingly, Prime Lite is in the testing phase right now. India is the only market where Prime Video has launched this new subscription plan ‘Prime Lite’.
The new launch echos Prime Video India’s earlier experiments in India, like how it had launched its ‘Mobile Only’ plan too in India first. The success of the Mobile Only plan in India had spurred Prime Video to launch the plan in other markets around the world.
Prime Video India had initially planned to keep the Prime Lite plan at ₹999, but that plan was chucked in favour of the newly introduced ₹799 plan.
Prime Video India currently offers the following subscription plans in India –
Monthly Prime (1 month) – ₹299
Quarterly Prime (3 months) – ₹599
Annual Prime (12 months) – ₹1499
Annual Prime Lite (12 months) – ₹799
Prime Video mobile-only plan – ₹599
