There has been no notable release on the OTT from the Telugu film industry in COVID second wave. But then, suddenly, there are three releases all from the stable of Suresh Productions. Narappa, Drushyam 2, and Virataparvam are going to skip their theatrical release.
Narappa and Drushyam 2 are going to Amazon Prime Video and Disney+ Hotstar respectively. The Virataparvam deal is not final yet but Netflix which already bagged the post-theatrical streaming rights is ahead of the race. We are also told that Narappa will be the first to release among these three. Buzz is that the movie will have its premiere on Amazon Prime Video on July 24th. The makers will be sending the movie for censor this week.
The official announcement regarding these releases will happen very soon. These deals have come as a surprise for the Telugu film industry because Suresh Group controls a lot of theatres in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. This decision has been taken when the theaters are going to open very soon.
Drushyam 2 is the remake of Drishyam 2 which also had a direct to OTT release on Amazon Prime Video. Narappa is the official remake of Tamil Blockbuster, Asuran. Virataparvam is a period film which has Sai Pallavi as the female lead.
