Alt Balaji, this afternoon, made an interesting announcement on its social media handles – one that has created massive buzz in the media. It is about its new show that is on the anvil – a story of two people – two women, who are in love.
The extraordinary love is depicted in extraordinary circumstances too – in the backdrop of Ayodhya of 1992. Which can mean only one thing – the love story is set against the perilous times of the Babri Masjid demolition in Ayodhya. That makes it a double whammy – a lesbian love story, and extreme religious conflict – a recipe for unmitigated disaster!
Based on the novel by Manju Kapur, called ‘A Married Woman’, the new show is also apparently titled the same. Ridhi Dogra and Monica Dogra play the protagonists, Aastha and Peeplika, respectively. The rest of the cast is still to be announced. A Married Woman is yet another collaborative effort of Alt Balaji and ZEE5, after their strategic tie-up.
Sensing the controversial nature of the narrative, Alt Balaji has attached a detailed disclaimer with the announcement, which asserts in no uncertain terms that it is just a story and they have no intentions to kindle any kind of controversy with the new web show.

Alt Balaji’s Twitter post is also accompanied with a short teaser of A Married Woman, showing the two protagonists. Check it out here –
