Alt Balaji just announced on its official Twitter account that it has begun shooting its latest web series: MUMbhai.
Its announcement post reads,
“Jaha jigri dost ban jaate hain jaani dushman! Jaha haath mein haath chalti hain rajneeti aur paison ka bolbala! Jaha cops karte hain crime ka encounter!
#ALTBalaji lekar aa raha hai ek aisi hi khatarnak kahaani, #MUMbhai. Starring @Imangadbedi @IamSandeepaDhar @sikandarkher”
The title of the show, MUMbhai, itself suggests that it will take a deep dive into the Mumbai underworld, due to the innovative portmanteau of the two words – Mumbai and Bhai. Bhai is used to describe an underworld don in Mumbai lexicon.
As per reports in the media, the narrative tells the story of the friendship between a cop and a criminal, set in the milieu of the Mumbai underbelly, and spanning a period from the late nineties to the 2000s.
We, at Binged.com, had earlier reported that the web series MUMbhai, starring Angad Bedi as a hard-nosed cop, and Sikander Kher as an underworld don, is in the works at Alt Balaji. Sandeepa Dhar also plays a prominent role in the series. It is another joint effort between Alt Balaji and ZEE5.
In an interaction with the media, leading protagonist Angad Bedi shared:
“We are trying to bring back the alpha male with MUMbhai. For me, the essence of the look is in this space. I am learning how to handle the gun, hold it as well understand how the mind of a cop works”.
Now that shoot has begun, viewers can expect the action-thriller to premiere on Alt Balaji and ZEE5 in the first half of 2020. The series is being directed by Akshay Choubey. Samar Khan is the executive producer.
